The band would like to offer your council/school/organisiation the opportunity to take part in specially designed educational workshops.

Two members of Celtic Rouge are professional Secondary Music Teachers and have created workshops which are aimed at introducing young people to contemporary Scottish music, These workshops combine fun with learning. Each workshop lasts approximately 1.5 - 2 hours and consists of:

· A very brief introduction to the history of Scottish music and how the style has developed into its current form. This includes discussion about the many different musical and cultural influences present in the music and demonstrations are given by the band.

· Games and activities giving the opportunity for everyone to join in. These are lively and interactive and concentrate on the “feel” of the style. Rhythm games, Scottish melodies, group dances and song are all utilised.

· Speciality groups. The young people are split into groups – melody, backing and rhythm. Each group is taken by the specialist band member and is taught to play a simple Scottish tune in the style worked on earlier. Please note that any instrument is welcome but participants should be of a sufficient standard for this activity.

· Final Stramash! Having learned a tune, the group are given the opportunity to perform with the band. This item will also be performed in the evening concert.

In addition to the workshop, Celtic Rouge are offering a lively evening concert, packed with toe-tapping tunes. From traditional Scottish music and song to the modern, exciting Cape Breton style and world premiere’s of several new works, the band will entertain with the best of the folk music scene in Scotland.

By the end of the session, the aim is to have everyone playing vibrant Scottish music together in a small ensemble and enjoying the excitement and fun this can bring. Hopefully, this will help encourage young people to get together and keep Scottish music alive.
